Why 2011 rocked!

Standard

Life is made up of little things that we often overlook, not knowing that they actually make up most of our life. If there are small things though, there are also of course, bigger things. Above are some of my 2011 highlights aka why 2011 is by far, my most awesome year yet!

I remember posting entries on the first day of 2011 saying how I felt like 2011 will be a GREAT(ER) year for me, because it’s the year for making things happen. Well, I didn’t disappoint myself. I really was able to do a lot of things in 2011, and it has truly been an unforgettable year. Wee! I was also able to visit 2 of the countries (Spain and Taiwan) I listed in the answer to the question, “List three countries you’d like to visit, and why you want to go.” I’ll be visiting the third (China) in April! Yay, let’s go 2012!

New year’s eve 2011!

Standard

I don’t know when this “dream” started, but I’ve been wanting to see Taipei 101’s New Year’s Eve’s fireworks display for quite some time now. At the start of this year, WordPress started this surprise video thing wherein a random video would pop out after you post something (I think that was it), and this video suddenly appeared.

This year, I was finally able to see it with my own eyes! Wee! My cousins and I got to 101 at around 11PM, so we only had to wait around an hour before the fireworks began. I also took 2 videos – one during the fireworks and the other after the fireworks:

2011, you are my MOST AWESOME year yet! Here’s to hoping that 2012 will be an EVEN MORE AWESOME year!! Wee ♥

One of my best birthdays ever!

Standard

I was able to do all the things I had planned for my birthday – and more.

Uriel (my Dominican Republic friend) surprised me with a cake. He went to our classroom during our break time and handed me the cake. Aww, thank you sooo much!!!

After class, I met up with Richelle and Polina by Shida night market and we went to Macho Tacos, this Mexican restaurant nearby. Yummy! Since we were so full from eating, we decided to walk around the night market. We shopped a bit – I bought 4 tops (1 to give to my sister) and 3 round scarves (1 to give to my sister, and the other for my cousin).

We got home and had an Italian themed dinner. Pizza, pasta, apple and shrimp salad, baked veggies, and Tiramisu birthday cake to end the night! WEEEE!!!! ♥ My friend also came over to wish me a happy birthday!

Happy day!

Ooh, I’m 22!

Standard

Well, the title says it all. I’m 22! Time really does fly by so fast! It seems just like yesterday that I was celebrating my 21st birthday and turning legal. I remember during my last birthday, my sister wasn’t in the Philippines, and I just went to the mall with my parents. My mom and I had Häagen-Dazs ice cream, and then I had my hair cut really short!

This year is the first time that I’m celebrating my birthday in another country – without my family and friends! It’s also the first time that I’m going to school on my birthday! We’re always on Christmas/holiday break during my birthday so we wouldn’t have classes. Also, it’s Rizal day (José Rizal is our national hero) so it’s usually a holiday. Growing up, indeed.

I don’t really have anything special planned out for tomorrow (later) except to go to school, go to this Mexican restaurant with my cousin for lunch, and then have pizza and chicken for dinner. Just some quality time with the relatives whom I’m currently living with! :)

My birthday wish last year was for 2011 to be a greater year than 2010… and it truly was! Therefore, I’m wishing for 2012 to be even greater than 2011 and 2010 combined! I don’t exactly know how that will happen though, seeing as how 2011 was truly a great year for me, but it doesn’t hurt to wish, right?

Good vibes again! :)

Day 2 – Parque del Buen Retiro!

Standard

We discussed this back in Span 140, and I can’t believe that it’s now right in front of me!

The above pictures were taken on our way home from school at around 3PM! It’s cold out today! Brr!

The pictures below were taken starting 7PM! Wow, right? The sun doesn’t set until 10PM!

The Metro Sol was closed so we got off at Gran Via and started walking toward the Parque del Buen Retiro. It was a looong walk but it’s a good thing that we got there! :)

The park is huuuuge! There are some “dead” areas but there are some wonderful areas as well! We like the Salon del Estanque, the area where Alfonso XII’s statue is, and the Bosque del Recuerdo.

At around 11PM, we went to the fiesta in Lavapiés!

Spain – Day 1

Standard

Nic and I bought our bono cards and then we went to UAM for the placement exam! After that, we went on a mini-tour of the university and then we had tapas! Yum.

At ¨night¨ (the sun sets at 10PM!), we went to Puerta del Sol, and then we attended a birthday party at La Elipa! Cute Sofia! :) Before going home, Ate Vi bought ice cream for us and then we passed by the Plaza Mayor for Daniel Barenboim´s free concert! Woo! Finally, we passed by restaurante Botin (the oldest restaurant in the world).

Notes from my phone (July 31, 2011):

Today marks many firsts in my life again. It’s my first time flying solo to Europe, my first time flying via KLM, my first time being at NAIA terminal 1.

You hear a lot of horror stories about our terminal 1 but I have to say.. Based on experience, it’s not that bad. I entered the gate, got my bags checked, and proceeded to the KLM counters (65-69 I think) . They had 2 counters reserved for business class, elite, and online check-ins. Since I had already checked-in online, I was able to significantly decrease my waiting in line time. Hee. After that, you follow the arrows to go to the terminal fee payment area. You pay the fee and head to the immigration area. You’ll need to present your passport, boarding pass, departure card, and other relevant documents. I was also asked to present my admission letter to the university I’ll be studying at in Madrid. Good thing I had it printed out. After that is the final checking area where you have to remove your shoes and other metallic objects, and submit yourself (and your things) to a.. final check.

Once you’ve passed through all those, you’re good to go. You find the gate where your flight’s departing from and you wait.

Hello there NAIA Terminal 1!

I was also able to ‘experience’ the terminal’s lavatory and I must say, it’s fairly clean. Plus, the attendant makes sure to continuously spray the cubicles with air freshener. Haha!

It’s 2.30pm and we’ve just finished eating a couple of minutes ago. We’re 32000 ft up in the air where it’s -32deg, according to this flight tracker. I watched an episode of FRIENDS and I’m watching Thor. We’ve already flown about 1/4 of this trip. For snacks, we had almonds and juice. For lunch, I had chicken, mashed potatoes, and mixed vegetables.

It’s 8pm now and we’re about 2/3 there. I’m enjoying this flight because of the fact that there is a lot of food! Haha -50deg. now!

It’s almost 1am Philippine time now but it’s only almost 7pm Amsterdam time! I’m waiting for my next flight to Madrid at the Schiphol airport. Woo touchdown Amsterdam! :)

Hello there Schiphol airport!

I’m kinda dizzy but I hope I don’t experience jet lag. Yikes. I also hope I still do well in tomorrow’s diagnostic/placement test.

Hello there Barajas airport!

Woo! Touchdown Madrid! I arrived around 11:30PM. Good thing I was able to see Nicole at the exit! Yay! We waited for almost an hour for the bus (because she insisted that there was a bus that would go straight to where we’re staying) but it turns out we have to switch buses. Anyhoo, it’s 3AM and we have to wake up at 8AM! Ciao!

Hola Madrid!
