30-Day Creative Writing Challenge, Day 5

If you could give yourself a new name, what would it be? Write about why you chose this new name and how it might change your life.

On the 30th of December, a 5-lb. beautiful and healthy baby girl was born to a Chinese couple. She was the youngest and newest addition to this little family. Everyone who saw her were taken aback by her beauty and purity. A newborn baby gives mankind hope for the future, so they say. “This one will be blessed with wisdom”, said the doctor. Her parents were overjoyed and they named her Caitlin Cassandra – the former signifying “pure” and the latter, “beauty coupled with wisdom.”

See what I did there? I tried to make a narrative paragraph! I don’t know if I succeeded but you get the point. I’ve always been fascinated with the name Caitlin and Cassandra, so if I could change my name, these are the names I would give myself. I don’t really know why, but Therese seems like a hard name to pronounce. People often hear my name wrong, and they would also often pronounce it the wrong way (depends on the country). I feel like having Caitlin or Cassandra as a name would be easier to say, and would be easier for other people to understand. The names also give off a sophisticated mood, and so I think that if I had these names, I would be more sophisticated and demure. Or not.
