February 29, 2012

Goku woke me up early (around 8AM) in the morning because 4gu was arriving and we needed to pick him up at the airport. On the way back home, we were greeted by the sun! Why hello there!

When we got back home, I prepared my stuff and ran some errands. I paid my health insurance and then went to NCCU.

I was only supposed to go to the library to return the books I had borrowed last month, but since (and I’ve said this time and again) our library is awesome, I spent more than an hour there, just randomly walking along the aisles of the book shelves looking for more books I can borrow. Since I didn’t want to borrow a lot of books (primarily because they’re heavy!), I only borrowed 5. They’re mainly international relations related books because I wanted to start reading about the topic. Gotta at least prepare for grad school, right? Eep! That reminds me – I have to start with my application.

After, I went to the College of Commerce which was located across the library. NCCU’s student ambassadors are organizing a weekend trip to Hualian and I signed up! I’ll be going to Tarokko Gorge, Tarokko National Park, Chihsingtan (? it’s a beach or something like that, I think), and we’ll even go rafting! Wee, I can’t wait! I probably won’t know anyone who’s going but I’m open to making friends and having fun. I hope I get roomed with nice people!

One of the students at the booth complimented me on my Disney earrings. Hee! I think she’s a fan of Disney/Mickey Mouse as well because she gushed about it! So cute.

I went back home and after eating lunch, we left for the airport again. This time, it was Gokim’s turn. She boarded a plane to go to the Philippines.

My high school batchmate Bryant came to Taiwan and we met up. He wanted to go to the night market so we went to Shida night market (my cousins’ and mine’s favorite night market). I went there with Roxane and Merry, and he brought along his cousin. First, we made him try the stinky tofu, which he found to be quite all right. I, on the other hand, don’t (and will not) like it.

We also ate this pastry called 冰火菠蘿油, because the cream and butter filling is cold (冰 refers to this part) while the bread is hot (火 refers to this part). It was my first time to eat such a thing, and it was yummy! I think it’s a pastry that originated from Hong Kong or Macau. Other things we ate were takoyaki balls and cookie ice cream sandwiches. Yum!

I didn’t do much over the weekend except for watch the Grammys, watch Grey’s Anatomy, drink meds for my pulled tooth, and basically just bum around.

Last night, SeulGi (my Korean classmate last term who went back home) messaged me saying that she was in Taipei and that she wanted to meet up. Luckily, I had nothing planned for today so I said yes.

We met up at Gongguan, along with her boyfriend, our other classmate Yosuke, and Merry. We talked a bit while looking for a place to eat at. We eventually settled on this Thai restaurant. Their food was delicious, as well as reasonably priced. We talked and basically caught up (sort of) with what has been happening to us the past 2 months. I think we must have eaten for almost 2 hours because of that! After dinner, we went to Dante Coffee for well, coffee (also to continue talking). Merry and I shared this bread and butter pudding, and iced hazelnut coffee. Yum!

Overall, it was a fun and chill night.

Last few days of Winter Term 2011

Last few days of Winter Term 2011

February 21 and 24, 2012

We were supposed to play this Monopoly-like game but the teacher asked us (well, them) to draw the board. I helped a LITTLE BIT after I took my make-up exam. The pictures were taken by Maria.

It was the last day of the term last Feb. 24, so the teacher treated the class to pizza! We also exchanged gifts (where I got a bar of chocolate) and watched a movie (愛情來了 – Love Go Go)!

I can’t believe that 3 months have gone by again! Time really flies by sooo fast!

Hong Kong with my 3C loves ♥ Days 3-4

Hong Kong with my 3C loves ♥ Days 3-4

February 19-20, 2012

We were supposed to wake up early, but… we didn’t. HAHA! We had brunch at a local restaurant. We ordered so much that we got so full after! The servers were so accommodating so that made us happy. The food was also delicious!

Then, a bunch of us (Lorraine, Sasy, Dom, Diana, Charmaine) decided to go to The Peak (rode the peak tram) and Sky Terrace 428. We were also supposed to go to Madame Tussauds but since we were already a bit short on cash, we didn’t end up going. When you’re on the sky terrace, if you stick your head out the glass barrier, you’d feel the cold wind blowing against your face! It was so cool! I think it’s better to go there at night though, because the view is magnificent (what with all the night lights), but since we didn’t have that option, we settled for the afternoon trip!

After that, Lorraine and I went to Mongkok night market again because we were hoping to see his lady who sells bags at a cheap price (unfortunately, she didn’t show up!). We ate dinner at this Chinese restaurant – xiao long bao and Sichuan noodles! Yummy. We also had dessert and drinks again at Hui Lau Shan. Then, we watched this street performer (who is apparently from France) dance. He wasn’t good but he has a toned body and I guess that’s the reason people give him money! He probably gets around 3, 000 HKD or more per day! Pffft!

Our last day in Hong Kong was spent shopping again! HAHA! We went to Cotton On again, and then we went to Causeway Bay for lunch at Delicious (where they in fact have delicious food!). Then, some people went to Ikea, and some people went to Wellcome. I went to the latter. Last minute shopping and whatnot! We got back to Tsim Sha Tsui and bought milk tarts to bring back home.

We got to the airport, checked in and everything, and went to Crystal Jade to eat their xiao long bao. A bit on the expensive side but yummy nonetheless. The next thing I’m trying is Din Tai Feng’s truffle xiao long bao.

Remember when I said that I had 2 tickets? TW-MNL-TW and MNL-HK-MNL? Well, when we landed in Manila (around 15 minutes late), I went to the transfer desk and the lady there told me that my flight could be considered a connecting flight (and she even radioed a lot of people asking about it) but to cut the long story short, someone arrived maybe around 10 minutes later and said that my ticket was considered sectoral so I would have to go through immigration, tax, check in, etc. all over again! Tsssss. Good thing I still made it on time! I was literally running around the airport. I ran to the immigration counter, went to the front of the line, explained my situation to the person (who turned out to be one of Tiff’s friends) and asked her if she could let me go first. Then, I ran from the arrival area to the departure area, went to the check in counter (where the lady closed the counter after I got in, whew!), paid the travel tax, went to the boarding area (where this airport employee asked to weigh my bag, and then kept asking me what was in my bag and if I was the one who packed it lalala. He first talked to me in English because he said he thought I looked Korean, and only spoke Filipino after I replied to him in Filipino.), and to end the story, finally boarded my plane. WHEW! MADE IT!

We may not have seen a lot of tourist spots in Hong Kong, and we may not have done most of what was in our to-do/to-see list but I surely had fun shopping, eating, and basically just hanging out with my 3C loves! It was also my first out of the country trip with high school friends so wee!

Hong Kong with my 3C loves ♥ Day 2

Hong Kong with my 3C loves ♥ Day 2

February 18, 2012

We had breakfast at KFC (their chicken and their pastry are delicious! Their egg tarts are also yummy!) before heading to Disneyland! Yay! I can finally cross that off my bucket list. Disneyland is truly the happiest place on Earth!! We felt like kids running around, taking pictures, riding the rides, watching the shows and the parade, and finally watching the fireworks display! Unbelievable! They also played a lot of the Disney songs we grew up listening to, so it was really a trip down memory lane for us (at the very least for me!) Siiiigh! ♥

Just so I can someday look back on this and remember this day better, here’s a list of the shows we watched:

  • The Golden Mickeys
  • Stitch Encounter
  • Flights of Fantasy Parade
  • Festival of the Lion King
  • Fireworks at Sleeping Beauty’s Castle

Toy Story Land — RC Racer, Barrel of Fun (where you take pictures with the characters), Toy Soldier Parachute Drop (next time!), Slinky Dog Spin (next time!)

Adventureland — Festival of the Lion King, Jungle River Cruise, Rafts to Tarzan’s Treehouse (next time!), Tarzan’s Treehouse (next time!)

Fantasyland — Sleeping Beauty Castle, Mickeys PhilharMagic (next time!), Mad Hatter Tea Cups, It’s a small world, The Golden Mickeys, Royal Banquet Hall (for lunch)

Tomorrowland — Space Mountain, Stitch Encounter, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters

The thing with going to someplace with a semi-big group of people is having to adjust to the wants of everyone. There’s also the time factor. Therefore, I wasn’t able to do everything I wanted to do in Disneyland (i.e. ride all the rides and take pictures with the characters) but oh well, there’s always next time, right?

We also ate the Caramel Popcorn while watching the fireworks display. I know that most probably, the popcorn in Disneyland is no different from popcorn being sold outside (except that it’s more expensive) but it was really soooo yummy!!!

After watching the fireworks display, we went to the souvenir store and stayed for quite some time there. Originally, I wasn’t planning on buying anything but then I figured that since it was my first time to go to Disneyland, better have something to commemorate it. I bought these earrings (there were 3 pairs in a set) and these key chains. Recently, I’ve decided to start a key chain collection and so far, I have Spain (Madrid and Andalusia), Guatemala, El Salvador, and Hong Kong. I think I also have Coron, Palawan from way way back. It’s time to look for my old key chains!

We went to Mongkok for the night market after Disneyland. We ate dinner at this little restaurant (where the servers were so rude), and then we tried this mango and rice balls drink from Hui Lau Shan.

Fun day!

Hong Kong with my 3C loves ♥ Day 1

Hong Kong with my 3C loves ♥ Day 1

February 17, 2012

This trip was a bit of a hassle for me because instead of going directly to Hong Kong, I went to Manila first, waited a couple of hours, and then went to Hong Kong. It was a different experience!

I went to the airport on February 16, arrived in Manila at around 4AM and ate breakfast at the airport. The food wasn’t all that good, but I didn’t have a choice because I was already so hungry.

My 3C (my third year high school class) loves slowly arrived and we were finally on our way to Hong Kong! I even sat beside Laureen Uy, an artist/fashion blogger in the Philippines, and her boyfriend (?) Robbie Becroft, who is apparently a model in the Philippines. They’re so cute together! My friends even have a picture where Laureen and Robbie joined in because according to Laureen, she had a teacher who told her that if you know that you’re going to be included in the picture anyway, might as well smile and look pretty.

Upon arriving at HKIA, we immediately took lots of photos! We stayed for a bit at the airport! When we finally got out, we boarded the bus (I think it was A21, and we got off at Nathan Road?) to Tsim Sha Tsui. We went to Taisan Guesthouse (where we were staying) and relaxed for a bit. Then, we went to Yuen Kee for lunch! Cotton On for shopping after! Late afternoon, Paul, Charm, Dom, and I played card games (Sorry Revenge and Cluedo) in our room. At night, we went to Silvercord, Harbour City, etc. for dinner and shopping!

Valentine’s and the day after

Valentine’s and the day after

For the past 22 years now, I’ve never really looked forward to Valentine’s Day because I never seem to have someone on that day. Sure, I’d have “things” with boys but for some reason, it’s either they’re before or after Valentine’s. It never happened that I have someone on the day itself. Not that I’m complaining though.

Moving on… my Dominican Republic friend Uriel gave us all wafers, stickers, and a small note. Aww, it was so thoughtful of him! He was also the one who gave us Christmas cards and who gave me a slice of cake on my birthday! It was also a good day — with temperature at around 24deg, if I remember correctly. That was why I decided to take a bunch of nature-y/outdoors-y shots (some of which I’m putting here) around school.

At night, Richelle brought home a slice of what seemed like red velvet cake. She had been working part-time at this chocolates store and it was her last night. Their boss gave them each a slice of cake. Yummy!

The day after Valentine’s, my classmates decided to go out for dinner. I didn’t want to go home lest I become lazy to go out so I just went to the 7-11 in front of our school to pass the time. I ‘designed’ the first page of my planner while waiting. Haha! We had dinner at this seafood restaurant somewhere in Zhongxiao Fuxing. They had yummy seafood — we had shrimps, clams, oysters, sushi, squids, etc! Apparently, seafood is ‘best’ eaten with beer, so that’s exactly what we drank. Heehee!

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary. – Steve Jobs, Stanford commencement speech, June 2005
